Hon. Oluwafemi Daniel Odunayo Inaugurates Itire–Ikate Environmental Task Force Committee

Council Boss affirms that the newly inaugurated corps will enforce key environmental regulations—including improper waste disposal, illegal trading on walkways, and the erection of unauthorized shanties—while also creating employment opportunities for the youth.

The Executive Chairman of Itire–Ikate LCDA, Hon. Oluwafemi Daniel Odunayo, has reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to promoting a clean, safe, and healthy environment as he officially inaugurated the Itire–Ikate Environmental Task Force Committee.

The newly established committee has been mandated to enforce compliance with environmental regulations and strengthen sanitation practices across the council area. Speaking at the ceremony, the Chairman explained that the initiative was prompted by the alarming rise in environmental infractions within the LCDA. He added that the Task Force has been adequately empowered with the legal backing necessary to enforce discipline and restore environmental order.

Hon. Odunayo further issued a stern warning to residents involved in environmental misconduct. He emphasized that anyone caught selling on pedestrian walkways, illegally occupying road medians, or disposing waste indiscriminately will face strict sanctions in accordance with established environmental laws.

Delivering the keynote address, the Special Guest of Honour, Arc. Hon. Lanre Okunlola, MHR, Surulere Federal Constituency II, commended the Executive Chairman for his vision and proactive leadership. He described the establishment of the Task Force as a timely and strategic intervention that will enhance the operations of the Environmental and Health Services Department in sustaining cleanliness and orderliness across the community.

Hon. Okunlola also charged members of the Task Force to uphold professionalism, integrity, and diligence in the discharge of their responsibilities. He noted that their conduct will play a significant role in reducing environmental violations and creating a healthier environment for residents of the LCDA.

The inauguration ceremony attracted a wide array of dignitaries and stakeholders from within and beyond the council area. Attendees included the Itire–Ikate APC LGA Chairman, Alhaji Ayinde Kushimo; the Leader and Honourable Councillors of the Legislative Arm; the Council’s Management Team; DPOs of Itire and Ijesha Divisions; officials of the DSS; and other security agencies.
